Project: Table Mountain Natural Gas Pipeline Revegetation
Client: Public Service Company of Colorado
Description: Western States was selected and ultimately hired by Public Service Company to complete revegetation efforts on steep portions of the Table Mountain Natural Gas Pipeline installation. Scope of work included broadcast seeding steep slope areas, installation of erosion control blankets on accessible areas, and installation of Bonded Fiber Matrix using a slurry bucket designed for Western States Reclamation and Public Service Company's helicopter. Project also included installation of hundreds of woody plant materials with protective guards to re- establish the woody plant community which was high profile and visible from the I-70 corridor and specifically the Coors family who had to provide right-of-way for the pipeline installation.
Location: Golden, Colorado
Project: Copper Range Mining Company White Pine Mine Test Plot Installation
Client: Golder Associates/Golder Kirtec
Description: Western States was retained by Golder Associates/Golder Kirtec Construction to install complex test plots on mine tailings.
Project consisted of what was considered inaccessible and accessible plots. The inaccessible test plots contain numerous challenges due to problematic in accessing the site because of wet mine tailing conditions. The accessible plots were less tedious when it came to access and installation of materials. Both the inaccessible and accessible test plots consisted of a wide matrix of installations, including numerous types of organic materials such as: slag, compost, wood chips, organic fertilizers, etc. Seeding, mulching and installation of other erosion control features were also included in Western States' scope of work. The project was under tight deadlines and strict quality control standards typical of test plot construction. Western States assisted in the rental or procurement of specialized low ground pressure pulling units, front end loaders and implements necessary to complete this project in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Project: Silverlake Water Line Revegetation
Client: TIC (The Industrial Company)/City of Boulder
Description: This project is located above Nederland, Colorado and ranges
from 8,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation. The revegetation scope of work
was very diversified and intense both because of the City of Boulder
requirements and mitigation of and owner concerns and disputes. Initially,
Western States removed wetland sod material in the first phase of the
pipeline installation, maintained sod by watering until pipeline was
installed through a wet meadow area, and ultimately replaced wetland
sod material as the mitigation measure to eliminate costly wetlands
reconstruction through outplanting. Project also includes over 200,000
plant tubelings consisting of Limber pine, Lodgepole pine and assorted
native shrub materials.Western States was responsible for coordination
of propagation of tubeling materials through Colorado State Forestry
office and other outside vendors. Most areas of the pipeline were revegetated
using hydroseeding and dromulching procedures. Localized areas or remote
areas prohibited the use of rubber tired and track equipment after regrading
of pipeline sections was completed. Therefore, Western States initiated
a unique procedure in applying hydromulch and Bonded Fiber Matrix by
use of a helicopter and spreader bucket designed specifically for Western
States needs.
