Project: Filmore to Colorado Avenue at I-25 in Colorado Springs

Description: This project included over 1,091 trees, 2,904 shrubs, 21 miles of mainline irrigation piping, and 16.8 acres of sod. This project was negotiated with adjacent homeowners prior to the re-alignment of I-25 and exists behind the decorative concrete barrier wall. The finished project consists of a park-like environment complete with concrete bike path. |
Colorado Department of Transportation officials, as well as local homeowners have applauded Western States crews. The construction phase of the project was completed in August of 2000. Western States crews will maintain the project through August of 2001. Maintenance operations will include mowing, fertilization, herbicide applications, and operation/maintenance of the massive/sophisticated irrigation system. This project won The Golden Hardhat Award as featured in Colorado Construction Publication.
Project: State Highway 287 Baseline to Hwy 42 Streetscape

Description: Installation of 2.5 miles of irrigated landscape, consisting of manicured turf and planters. Difficult aspects included custom screening and placement of topsoil material in center medians. Rebuilt a No-grout concrete block wall, including soil nailing and subsurface drainage.

Project: Rotella Park Irrigation Improvements

Description: Installed a variable speed pump station complete with wetwell and enclosure. Specifications required maintaining the existing irrigation system during all phases of new irrigation installation. This was accomplished in August and September without interruption of use of park facilities.

Description: Initially, Chenoweth and Associates was retained
by DHM, a local land planning and landscape architectural firm and
Fidelity Investments working in conjunction with a team of individuals
to design landscape and revegetation efforts that would resemble a
rolling prairie image complete with water features and trail systems
for this latest development at the prestigious Castle Pines Development.
Western States was hired for this 3-year project to complete earthwork
which included intricate shaping of landscape berm areas, revegetation
efforts which will result in a native prairie image complete with
a selection of intricate pattern of wildflowers which will provide
color for 4 months throughout the growing season, and finally, a maintenance
program which will help ensure that weed control is accomplished resulting
in a flourishing vegetative cover in a short period of time. The final
project will include an interpretative trail system which Chenoweth
and Associates anticipates continued involvement in.
